We’ve compiled some frequently asked questions and need to knows when making decisions about your wedding cake

  • What is the average price for wedding cakes and dessert bars?

    • This is always such a hard question to answer because there are so many factors to consider from the type of dessert to the number of servings and all of the wonderful factors that go into making that decision. I would say a good starting place to is consider $3-$7 per person. We do have a variety of cost saving options like sheet cakes, cookies, and bars that can help provide extra servings at a somewhat lower price.

  • On that note, the budget…

    • This isn’t so much a frequently asked question by the customer as is it asked by us. Having a budget or range that you’re comfortable in spending is incredibly important to know before scheduling a tasting. If you have a parent, friend, or family member who is going to be paying for the sweets, make sure to have this conversation with them.

  • What does design all entail?

    • The design aspect of the cake includes all the little details from whether we’re using fondant or not, piping or detailing in buttercream, gold leaf or silver leaf, and all of the edible decorations. Some decorations may appear simple and classic in appearance but are a little more complicated to create, we factor all of these elements into our pricing to provide a personalized quote for you.

  • Can I provide my own decorations?

    • You can certainly provide any and all non-edible decorations. For example, ribbon and cake toppers are really popular options. Silk flowers and fresh flowers are also popular and we can certainly work with those. Depending on the decorations provided we require most to be delivered the day before your wedding or at the venue, during the tasting and future consultations we can chat about which option work best for us and for you. There may be a $15-30 charge to add on decorations.

  • Can you match our colors for decorations on the cake?

    • While it is extremely difficult to match colors exactly, we will do our best to make sure the colors are as close as they can be. Unfortunately, some colors cannot be closely matched due to their luster, sheen, or variation. Dying buttercream can sometimes affect the taste, but we will discuss that with you if that becomes a concern.

  • How far do you deliver?

    • We typically don’t deliver further than a 70 mile radius, with some exceptions to go a little further. We base our delivery fees on distance, time, and whether one or two people are required to properly deliver the sweets. Delivery fee ranges from $1-$5 per mile.

  • Who decorates the cake table or provides the decorations for the dessert bar?

    • We do not provide any additional decorations for the table or dessert bar unless previously agreed upon. All cake will come on a 1/2” thick cake board that can sit on the table, from a design element we usually recommend a cake stand for the cake to sit on. We can certainly help you with that process in making sure to pick out the proper stand or can recommend several rental companies in the area.

  • Do we have to save our top tier for our One Year Anniversary?

    • Not everyone saves their top tier. However, if you would like to save the top tier, you will want to make sure that you discuss that with us so we can add the additional tier to your wedding cake total. Keep in mind that not all cakes and fillings freeze well. When freezing, place the cake in a box and wrap several times with plastic wrap in different directions. Place the box in a plastic bag, then seal and place in the freezer. One year later, thaw and enjoy! A fun alternative is to order a small one tier replica of your wedding cake on your one year anniversary.

  • How do I schedule a tasting/consultation, and is it free?

    • To schedule a tasting by filling out the form on our wedding page, we will then get a hold of you with dates and times that we have available to meet. As of right now we offer several standard cake and cheesecake flavors that are available for our complimentary tastings and it includes up to 4 flavors. We do charge $5 extra for additional flavors. All of our tasting flavors come in a standard cupcake size and it one cupcake per flavor, this is the perfect size to share with another person or two. Otherwise we offer custom tastings starting at $20 for 4 flavor, and you can choose any items from our menu. Unfortunately at this time we cannot offer donuts or macarons for tastings, however if you’re interested in tasting them please contact us and we can coordinate a time when we do have those items available for you to taste.

  • How many people should I bring along to a tasting?

    • We recommend that it’s you plus 2-3 extra people. Something to bare in mind, when bringing extra people along it can become distracting from being able to talk about the details, pricing, and design of your desserts. We provide the same amount of dessert for the tasting if it is 1 person or 4 people.

  • What should I bring to the tasting?

    • While we have some books and a photo album containing many photos to inspire you, feel free to bring in any pictures or items to help us design a cake for your special day. Visuals may include invitations, photographs, cake toppers, fabric swatches, as well as any monograms or graphics that may have been created for you.

  • Why does fondant cost more than buttercream?

    • Fondant Icing is rolled sugar dough placed on top of a layer of buttercream icing. When we create a cake with fondant icing, frost the cake first, roll out the fondant, and frost the cake a second time. Fondant can take extra time to get just right.

  • Why choose fondant instead of buttercream?

    • To start that depends upon your style and preference. I like to look at it as not choosing one or the other, but sometimes fondant offers the best of both worlds. As mentioned above, when we do fondant it has a layer of buttercream under it so you still get the amazing buttercream but you can then also get the beautiful sleek look from fondant. Also, fondant can be colored in deeper colors without compromising the flavor as it would in buttercream.

  • We are planning an out door reception, or our reception hall does not have air conditioning. How will this effect my choices?

    • Since heat and buttercream do not play well together, an outdoor reception during spring, summer or early fall months will limit your frosting choices and even ability to display the cake. Fondant will certainly hold better than the buttercream, but remember, bugs love sweets, and humidity may cause the fondant on your cake to sweat, flowers to turn limp, and colors to run. Ideally we recommend that cakes remain indoors in an air conditioned area, until just before the cake cutting ceremony. If you truly want your cake to be outside, we will run down the various options with you and see what we can do to create your dream wedding.

  • Can I have different flavors in the different tiers?

    • Flavors of cake can be matched to each tier based upon your specifications. We do, however, recommend usually sticking to two flavors to give people the option of choice, but we can do more. If you’re worried about allergens, we encourage you do order a side cake for those guests as we cannot guarantee protection from cross contamination in tiered cakes.
